Members of this committee will perform the responsibilities stated below for at least one year. After one year, we can revisit for modification of responsibilities as well as members on a need basis. The HOD will certainly be involved, but the ownership of the following tasks will be with the committee.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Envision the infrastructure requirement for teaching and research in the future (not just one year) and create an appropriate budget.
The committee takes input from the department and creates a requirement.
Why: This will help in having a bigger plan, based on which we can aggressively ask for new labs.
-
Ensure NFA creations for infrastructure procurement and installation on time.
-
Train and demand more manpower for lab support.
-
Monitor the current infrastructure for its appropriate and optimal usage.
- Bring more automation in monitoring, and create usage data for analysis and prediction.
-
Proactive maintenance:
- Interacting with the support team
- Remote management of servers, desktops, software upgrades
-
Asset audit, so that:
- We know what we have, what needs upgradation
- Track department-level and individual-level purchases
- Make decisions to support faculty/students when they require infrastructure
- Support faculty members in submitting external proposals where infrastructure details are needed
Currently, we do not have any central place to get a list of what assets we have, whether we are duplicating the infra, whether the infra can be shared for optimal usage, etc. A faculty member may procure infrastructure for their project and lend it on a need basis.
-
Leverage external/cloud-based resource usage:
- Actively establish collaboration with IAAS providers like AWS, AZURE, Google (through alumni connect?) for long-term cloud-based infrastructure support
- Leverage CDAC's supercomputing facility for our research and project use
